Sometimes, the best way to defuse a "sociaL" situation, is to look away, and Melt & Just Disappear, as though your Consciousness is no longer there, when in fact, you are stiLL entirely present...

By Pretending to Walk away, you've won...

Controlling the Distance where your "foe" or "enemy" will reach you, creates more obstacles for the Opponent to just reach you...

Just like Bruce, when you can manage the Location of the PotentiaL threat, you have neutralized its effectiveness "against" you...

And remember, Our Greatest Foe Lies within us...Our inner demons, the ones we must "wrestle" with, every Single moment, to evolve into our greater selves...

Nate: There's lots to dig into in the realm of self-defense outside of the physical aspect. I think physical self-defense is easier and simpler to learn in a lot of ways. Developing the subtle awareness to distinguish signs of danger and how to deal appriately with it without letting it escalate to violence is a whole other art. At the root of both, though, is awareness.

Rorie: I'm glad you enjoyed the article. I think the holistic approach is important. It gives us more opportunity to avoid violence, more tools and skills. If one tool doesn't work or you forgot to bring it, hopefully, one of the others will work and so on.

Lovely article Jason. I didn't catch this one on the first time around.

Yes, I love the idea that we address self defense as a whole system with many options. Voice, body language, etc are all great ways to effect your environment. A good solid punch to the nose is a great way too - so its good we don't just pretend to be martial.

It is wonderful that we're really just learning to connect to things around us in different ways for different purposes. Its only natural this stuff has healing applications as well as martial, right? This goes with some things Steven has written about how we can do things with both compassion and violence.

I would love to dig into some of this stuff. How about some articles or a workshop with more details on the use of voice, body language, legal know how, etc in connecting with those people and things around you?

I would love to hear from Shannon on the voice stuff. I'm reading the Art of War by Sun Tzu and imagine that’ll stir up all sorts of good things in my mind. I want to write about it a bit – I’ll keep y’all posted.
