Distributing the Wealth of Knowledge

Shi Rui-Xuan Yuan Inquires of the Dao

The internet is slick.

  • What a great way to exchange information.
  • What a great way to discover ideas.
  • What a great way to share thoughts.

It’s not knowledge though, is it?

One gathers knowledge through experience.

The experience of being, for example…by just sitting there, or meditating or practicing Qigong or whatever you call it, brings knowledge of being. Learning, practicing, getting more refined, precise, or exuberant about Taiji brings knowledge of Taiji.

It’s action that counts…not intellect, not theory, not imagination. We must act to become knowledgeable.

Intellectualizing, theorizing, imagining and other nervous system process have effects on knowledge, but make no replacement for action. They may enhance it or deride it…choose carefully…and remember the ground.

3 Great Ways to Share Taiji — or Any Art

We share experience by:

  1. Telling Stories.
  2. Showing Off.
  3. Touching.

However we attempt to distribute knowledge, most of our attempts are indirect and informational.

We might guide another person’s experience, but we can never control it.

While we attempt to share, we learn. Teaching means figuring out the art enough to impart a sequential story, enough to highlight motions while showing off, enough to be sensitive to another person’s structure while guiding their movement.

The bottom line: whether you’re sharing knowledge, wealth, or food it’s a political decision. The more we embrace reality and this awe-inspiring, fragile World where we live, the more we’ll share.

By sharing, we all grow richer.

That’s not a Socialist agenda, it’s a fact: the Master learns as much by teaching the art as the students do by learning it.

Get Real about Distributing Knowledge

The bigger trouble about sharing is not so much whether we share, it’s about how much do we share?

I don’t mean: hold back to keep the goods. I mean: give a little at a time so that the student, or receiver, can benefit throughout time, more and more.

Of course, my hope, by sharing this philosophical subject, is that you understand what I mean by real. And I hope you embrace Real Taiji.

What’s on your mind?
